The U.S. State Department has approved a potential $1.17 billion sale of helicopter equipment and support to India, strengthening defense ties between the two nations and enhancing India’s military capabilities. The sale includes advanced systems and spares for India’s MH-60R Seahawk helicopters, widely regarded as one of the most advanced multi-role naval helicopters in the world.
The package will include cutting-edge equipment such as advanced radar systems, electronic warfare modules, communication suites, and anti-submarine warfare capabilities. These enhancements aim to bolster India’s maritime security, particularly in the strategically critical Indian Ocean Region, where India seeks to maintain dominance amid increasing regional tensions.
This approval underscores the deepening defense partnership between the U.S. and India under the framework of the Major Defense Partner designation, which facilitates greater access to advanced military technologies. The sale aligns with India’s military modernization initiatives and its ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) goal by integrating foreign systems with domestic production and operational frameworks.
