Tamil Nadu has launched an ambitious Aerospace & Defence Industrial Policy, positioning the state as a leading hub for aerospace and defense manufacturing in India. The policy aims to attract investments worth over ₹75,000 crore, create thousands of high-skilled jobs, and boost the state’s contribution to India’s self-reliance in defense and aerospace technologies under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
Key features of the policy include the establishment of dedicated aerospace and defense industrial corridors in strategic locations like Chennai, Hosur, and Coimbatore, with advanced infrastructure for manufacturing, research, and testing. Incentives such as tax rebates, land subsidies, and funding for R&D are being offered to attract global and domestic players, including startups and MSMEs, to invest in the state.
The policy also focuses on fostering innovation through collaborations with premier institutions like IIT Madras and partnerships with defense organizations such as DRDO and ISRO. Tamil Nadu plans to focus on emerging areas such as unmanned aerial systems, hypersonics, and space technologies while promoting sustainable manufacturing practices and green aerospace solutions.
With its strong industrial base, skilled workforce, and proactive governance, Tamil Nadu aims to capture a significant share of the global aerospace and defense market. This policy is expected to generate significant economic benefits, enhance India’s defense capabilities, and cement Tamil Nadu’s position as a national leader in the aerospace and defense sectors.
