Rolls-Royce and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) are considering a significant expansion of their joint venture, International Aerospace Manufacturing Pvt Ltd (IAMPL), in Tamil Nadu. The companies are exploring the possibility of establishing four to five new manufacturing units in Hosur and other locations within the state.
Kishore Jayaraman, President of Rolls-Royce – India and South Asia, highlighted the advantages of operating in Tamil Nadu, including robust infrastructure, a skilled workforce, strong academic institutions, and supportive governance. He emphasized that IAMPL’s existing operations in Hosur benefit from these factors, contributing to the company’s success in manufacturing complex components for the global aerospace supply chain.
Currently, IAMPL employs approximately 200 engineers who produce high-precision components for both civil and defense aero-engine markets. These products are exported to countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany. The potential expansion aims to increase production capacity and create additional employment opportunities in the region.
The proposed expansion aligns with the Tamil Nadu government’s efforts to strengthen the state’s aerospace and defense manufacturing capabilities. By leveraging the state’s favorable business environment and skilled labor pool, Rolls-Royce and HAL aim to enhance their manufacturing footprint and contribute to the growth of India’s aerospace sector.
