The Indian Navy is set to bolster its maritime capabilities with the induction of INS Tushil, an advanced stealth frigate, by February 2025. Built under the Project 11356 series in collaboration with Russia, INS Tushil is equipped with state-of-the-art stealth features, weapon systems, and sensor technologies, designed to enhance the Navy’s operational readiness in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
INS Tushil incorporates reduced radar cross-section (RCS) technologies, advanced electronic warfare systems, and high-performance propulsion systems to ensure speed, agility, and survivability in hostile environments. Its weapon suite includes BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, surface-to-air missiles, and advanced torpedoes, making it highly versatile for multi-role operations such as anti-submarine warfare, air defense, and surface strikes.
The frigate also features cutting-edge surveillance and communication systems, ensuring superior situational awareness and coordination during missions. With a displacement of over 4,000 tons and a top speed exceeding 30 knots, INS Tushil is optimized for long-range deployments and high-endurance missions.
This induction aligns with the Navy’s efforts to modernize its fleet and maintain strategic dominance in critical maritime corridors. INS Tushil’s capabilities will significantly enhance India’s ability to counter evolving threats and ensure the security of sea lines of communication.
The project underscores the strong defense partnership between India and Russia, while also contributing to India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative by fostering indigenous participation in technology integration and manufacturing. INS Tushil is expected to play a key role in reinforcing regional stability and strengthening India’s maritime security architecture.
