The Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA) has announced plans to set up advanced testing and certification facilities for defense aviation in Tamil Nadu, a move aimed at bolstering the state’s position as a hub for aerospace and defense manufacturing. These facilities will focus on testing and quality assurance for critical components, systems, and aircraft used in India’s defense aviation programs, ensuring compliance with international standards.
Located strategically within Tamil Nadu’s emerging aerospace ecosystem, the facilities will cater to the testing needs of indigenously developed platforms such as the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and other advanced systems under production by public and private entities. They will feature state-of-the-art equipment for structural testing, environmental simulations, and avionics validation, promoting indigenous innovation under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) initiative.
This initiative is expected to attract investments, create high-skilled jobs, and encourage collaborations between defense manufacturers, startups, and academic institutions. By ensuring stringent quality standards, the DGAQA’s facilities will play a critical role in enhancing the reliability and performance of India’s defense aviation assets while supporting export ambitions.
