No Proposal From Tamil Nadu for Hosur Airport, Says Civil Aviation Ministry

The Civil Aviation Ministry has confirmed that it has not received any formal proposal from the Tamil Nadu government regarding the development of an airport in Hosur, despite growing demands for improved air connectivity in the region. Hosur, a significant industrial hub with a robust presence of manufacturing and IT sectors, has been seeking an airport to facilitate better business and commuter travel.

Local stakeholders and representatives have frequently highlighted Hosur’s strategic importance due to its proximity to Bengaluru and its role in driving Tamil Nadu’s economic growth. An airport in Hosur is expected to boost industrial operations, attract investments, and enhance regional connectivity under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, which aims to connect underserved areas.

However, the lack of a formal proposal has delayed any progress. The Civil Aviation Ministry has reiterated its willingness to consider such a project if the state government submits a detailed plan, including land allocation and feasibility studies.

The development of an airport in Hosur could complement Tamil Nadu’s aviation network, decongest nearby Bengaluru airport, and provide significant economic benefits to the region. For now, the onus lies with the state government to initiate the process and take the project forward.
