Indian Navy Activates Disaster Response as Cyclone Fengal Approaches Tamil Nadu Coast

The Indian Navy has activated its disaster response mechanism as Cyclone Fengal intensifies and approaches the Tamil Nadu coast. With the cyclone expected to make landfall near Chennai, the Navy has positioned its assets and personnel to assist in relief and rescue operations in coordination with local authorities and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

Several ships and aircraft have been placed on standby at naval bases in Chennai and Visakhapatnam, equipped with medical supplies, food, water, and emergency kits. Additionally, naval helicopters are ready to conduct aerial surveys and assist in the evacuation of stranded civilians from vulnerable coastal areas. Specialized diving teams and disaster response units have also been deployed to provide support in flood-prone regions.

The Indian Navy has coordinated with the Tamil Nadu government to establish temporary shelters and ensure the distribution of essential supplies in affected areas. Monitoring stations are providing real-time updates on the cyclone’s path and intensity to ensure effective response measures.

Cyclone Fengal’s approach highlights the Navy’s critical role in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations, demonstrating its readiness to mitigate the impact of natural disasters. By leveraging its resources and expertise, the Indian Navy aims to minimize loss of life and ensure the swift restoration of normalcy in affected regions.
