India has successfully conducted the flight test of its Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) System, a significant step in enhancing the country’s missile defense capabilities. The advanced system, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is designed to intercept and neutralize incoming ballistic missile threats at high altitudes and speeds, further strengthening India’s multilayered missile defense architecture.
The test involved an interceptor missile equipped with state-of-the-art radar, guidance, and control systems, which successfully engaged and destroyed a target missile simulating an enemy ballistic missile. The Phase-II system boasts an extended interception range and advanced technologies, including hit-to-kill precision, enhanced radar tracking, and greater operational flexibility compared to the Phase-I system.
This milestone aligns with India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense technology under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) initiative. The system enhances India’s ability to counter evolving threats, including long-range missiles and hypersonic weapons, and reinforces its deterrence posture in the region.
